  1. For this assignment you need to carefully read both the textbook Chapter 1 section on ethics and the Learning Materials “Ethics in research” folder closely before working on your discussion.
    • Chapter 1 of the textbook has a section on research ethics (see attached PDF).
    • Module 1 in the Learning Materials section of our Blackboard Classroom has a section called “ethics in research” (seeLink).
    • Please make sure to use(and reference with APA style in text citations) the textbook and content from the learning Materials “ethics in research” folder.

Discussion Prompt

Section 1: SYNOPSIS OF BBC PodCast(1 paragraph)

  1. Give a brief and clear synopsis of the item.
  2. This must include an overview of the topic as presented in the link.
  3. Don’t just describe (ie, this happens and then that and this) instead give an analytical overview (big picture)
  4. this is not as simple as it sounds! Be mindful of your work.

Section 2: CONNECTIONS TO TEXTBOOK MATERIAL and to the Ethics in research section of module 1 learning materials(2-4 paragraphs)

  1. How does this material/information overlap with concepts/ideas from these assigned readings? (Be specific)
  2. What have you learned from this clip that expanded or changed how you understand the topic from the assigned readings alone? (Be specific)
  3. Be specific.
  4. (One or two vague connections are not sufficient.)

Section 3: PERSONAL REFLECTION(1-2 paragraphs)

  1. What is the take home message of this for you personally?
  2. What is most meaningful / interesting for you in this talk?
  3. Again, be specific
  4. This is not the place to introduce new material from the clip or the text.
  5. Talk about YOUR responses and feelings.
  6. A quick sentence or two is not sufficient.

Hints and Tips

  • Write out your work in Word and then using keyboard shortcuts copy and paste into dialogue box on discussion board
  • Make sure to use title headers and paragraphs to separate sections
  • Make sure to clearly address all points asked for in the instructions.
  • Do notuse outside sources: you should only reference the assigned material and the BBC Podcast provided.
  • Define your terms using textbook
  • Include APA in-text citations
  • Marks are assigned for grammar, punctuation and style.
  • Creativity, thoughtfulness, and style also count
