Use the knowledge you learned about mechanical properties and failure of materials in class to complete an essay in analyzing materials issues in a structural failure incident (aircraft accident, bridge collapse, race car failure, etc). Among all possible failure dmechanisms, pick one specific topic you consider to be the most critical in causing the failure and expand discussion throughout the history of the problem and how this could be avoided or improved in future materials design and selection.
In this essay you need to address following issues:
1, Based on the analysis of one particular failure incident to make a connection with the widespread existence of the same problem in other systems. To include discussion on the necessity of a broad education in a global & societal context to address impact of mechanical engineering problems and solutions.
2. Through engaging in search for the history and possible solutions to one particular problem for future design improvement, discuss the need for and cultivate the ability to engage in life-long learning to solve engineering problems.
