non-profit business to accomplish sustainable development goals

Hello, a bit about my self, I have a strong belief in  helping to build small business. Along with family to be able to keep food on the table and a roof over their head.

I strong have backed SDG goals 1,2,4,6,8,9,16,17 all semester

Here is a bit about the project :

compose a business proposal for a non-profit to be designed by YOU and implemented as part of the U.N.s effort at accomplishing the SDGs. To set the stage: you are being given a one-million dollar grant through the U.N. to do the best job you can addressing any ONE of the SDGs (your choice which one). Given all that we’ve studied & discussed during this course, your assignment is to do your utmost to create a non-profit business that will a) be impactful and b) be sustainable. Keep in mind that impact doesn’t have to be huge (you don’t have to create a company whose goal is to end world hunger on it’s own, for example– but perhaps like one of those you learned about in Poverty, Inc., one that would clearly make a difference).

Your proposal should follow this outline:

1) an introduction of addressing the United Nations organization, in which you describe in three separate paragraphs:

      a) what SDG you chose to address with your business proposal, and why it personally means something to you

      b) what the mission statement of your business is, and what were the guiding principles that led you to formulate it

      c) a summary of specific goals that business will try to accomplish (2-3 goals minimum)

      d) how your work will also help in some way to advance one or more of the rights listed on the UDHR of the United Nations, and why that is important to you as well

2) a description of the structure of your non-profit business (no required length, but be thorough!), including:

      a) the location/locations your business will be conducted in, and why

      b) the actual activity that will take place in your business- what exactly will it do

      c) the people/needs that the business will directly impact, and how

      d) what problems, obstacles, or mistakes that your business will seek to avoid

      e) how your business will make a long-term impact as well as a short-term impact- you should list and briefly describe at least one long-term goal & one short-term goal

FOR GRADING PURPOSES: I will be looking for:

  • adherence to the outline above
  • clear evidence of course material that we’ve discussed, outlined, viewed, annotated, etc. at any level. This will be a KEY part of my grading rubric: are you able to take basic concepts we’ve discussed and intelligently incorporate them? You won’t need to quote or cite lots of sources; instead, I imagine it would be obvious (for example) to see that your business model would reflect ideas you learned/observed in Poverty, Inc. rather than having to quote the movie directly. I will look for the same in the way you address and incorporate human rights, the SDGs, etc.– if you are able to look back over your Discussion posts and those of other students, your outlines/responses to film/video, etc., you should have more than enough material. I’ve seen you all grow & expand your personal knowledge & understanding of the topics in the course, so as long as I see that continuing here, you should be good. If I see a more generic, ‘anyone who didn’t take this course could have written this’ approach, you’ll lose points.
  • personal investment and expression in which YOU are really expressing your own thoughts, feelings and passion along the way.
